Lantarani Das Ke Jani

You Said: You Shall Not See Me

Two ways into the same verse. Tap a line to find its echo.

Between my love and me no difference stands: “Wherever you turn,” you said.

Come, let me sleep within your arms; my veil is drawn.

You said I shall not see you—why hide your face, my love?

You filled the patient sufferer's flesh with worms; such was the rising path.

Mansur let a secret show; you raised him to the scaffold.

You said I shall not see you—why hide your face, my love?

Tell me the secret of divinity: before whom was the bow commanded?

Bulleh, Satan refused the Lord's command, and you brought him to shame.

You said I shall not see you—why hide your face, my love?
