BULLEH SHAHTHE LIVING VERSE
FROM THE WORDS OF BULLEH SHAH

Huṇ main lakhiā sohṇā yār

Now I have seen the beautiful beloved

Two ways into the same verse. Tap a line to find its echo.

Now I have seen the beautiful beloved,

whose beauty sets the market thronging.

When the One was alone, no splendour yet shone forth;

no Lord, Messenger, Allah, no Compeller or Subduer was named.

Now I have seen the beautiful beloved,

Beyond how and what, beyond likeness and example,

no colour and no pattern; now a thousand varied forms.

Now I have seen the beautiful beloved,

The beloved put on clothing and took the name Adam.

From Ahad he came as Ahmad, leader of the prophets.

Now I have seen the beautiful beloved,

He said “Be,” and being came; the formless took form.

He placed mim within Ahad and spread this boundless world.

Now I have seen the beautiful beloved,

I leave mosque and shrine; I keep neither fast.

Ablution and prayer forgotten, I give my life to you.

Now I have seen the beautiful beloved,

Saints and prophets serve him; angels bow before him.

Their heads lie at his feet; his court is greatest of all.

Now I have seen the beautiful beloved,

Who wishes to see him needs a guide to see.

Shah Inayat speaks the secret; every mystery opens.

Now I have seen the beautiful beloved,
