BULLEH SHAHTHE LIVING VERSE
FROM THE WORDS OF BULLEH SHAH

Amman babe di bhaliai

Our parents left us this kindness

Two ways into the same verse. Tap a line to find its echo.

Our parents' kindness: now we reap its fruit.

The parents went two different ways; the son inherits honour.

For a little grain they tear at hair; every house is at war.

Our troubles began the day they swallowed down that wheat.

Fed by charity, we rend Friday's peace and turn our claim upside down.

Bulla, the parrots are driven out; owls inherit the garden.

Our parents' kindness: now we reap its fruit.
