BULLEH SHAHTHE LIVING VERSE
FROM THE WORDS OF BULLEH SHAH

Roze hajj nimāz nī māe

Fasts, pilgrimage and prayer, mother

Two ways into the same verse. Tap a line to find its echo.

Fasting, pilgrimage, prayer, mother—

The beloved came; I forgot them all.

News of the beloved erased grammar and logic.

The unstruck string rang: what fasting, what prayer, mother?

The beloved came home; law and its books slipped away.

Each form reveals the One whose light fills inside and out.

What do people know of it—of fasting and prayer, mother?
