FROM THE WORDS OF BULLEH SHAH

Man Atakio Sham Sundar Son

My Heart Clings to Beautiful Shyam

Two ways into the same verse. Tap a line to find its echo.

Here a Brahmin, there a sheikh,

each sets out a separate account.

How many arts unfold before me!

My heart holds fast to beautiful Shyam.

Understanding dawned; I cried to Ram.

You and I are one; no second stands.

Such is the household of love's city.

My heart holds fast to beautiful Shyam.

What scholar can set this down?

It comes from nowhere, goes nowhere,

like the teacher's bracelet on the wrist.

My heart holds fast to beautiful Shyam.

Bulleh, fall before your love.

Lay even your severed head before him.

Now everywhere I look, the One appears.

My heart holds fast to beautiful Shyam.
