BULLEH SHAHTHE LIVING VERSE
FROM THE WORDS OF BULLEH SHAH

Chalo dekhīe us mastānaṛe nūn

Come, see that ecstatic one

Two ways into the same verse. Tap a line to find its echo.

Come, let us see that one drunk with love,

whose name rings through the spinning circles.

He dyes himself and me in oneness,

never asking, “What caste are you?”

The one whose fame fills every quarter

lives always at your side;

he says, “We are nearer,”

and, “Within your very selves.”

Leave that town of false belief;

let love's rapture take its root.

They reached the beloved's being,

who became deaf, mute and blind.

Neither yours nor mine is this;

the passing world is bickering.

Who guides us but the master?

Read: Remember Me; I remember you.

Bulleh Shah, this truth is told in hints;

those who thirst to see

learn the way to the merchant's home.

God's hand rests above your hands.

Come, let us see that one drunk with love,

whose name rings through the spinning circles.

One verse. Many voices.

Stay with the words.
Then hear how they travel.
