पढ़ पढ़ आलिम फ़ाज़िल होइओं,
yet never read the self within.
कदे अपने आप नूँ पढ़िआ ई नहीं।
You enter temples and mosques, again and again,
जा जा वड़दा ऐं मंदर मसीतीं,
yet never enter your own heart.
कदे मन अपने विच वड़िआ ई नहीं।
You fight with Satan daily, all in vain,
ऐवें रोज़ शैतान नाल लड़नैं,
yet never wrestle with your own desire.
कदे नफ़स अपने नाल लड़िआ ई नहीं।
Bulleh Shah, you catch what flies across the sky,
बुल्ल्हे शाह असमानीं उड्डदियाँ फड़नैं,
yet never catch the one who sits at home.
जेहड़ा घर बैठा उहनूँ फड़िआ ई नहीं।
